Famvir (Famciclovir)
General information
Famvir is an antiviral drug. It slows the growth and spread of the herpes virus so that the body can fight off the infection. Famvir will not cure herpes, but it can lessen the symptoms of the infections. It is used to treat infections caused by herpes viruses. Illnesses caused by herpes viruses include genital herpes, cold sores, shingles, and chicken pox.
Directions
Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Take each dose with a full glass of water, with or without food. Dose for cure of recurrent genital herpes is 1,000 mg two times a day during one day. Repeated cold sores should be cured by 1,500 mg using once. To suppress recurrent genital herpes take 250 mg twice a day during 1 year. Treatment of shingles require 500 mg every eight hours during a week. For cold sores and genital herpes 500 mg of Famvir is used twice a day during 5-10 days.
Precautions
Avoid letting infected areas come into contact with other people. Avoid touching an infected area and then touching your eyes. Wash your hands frequently to prevent passing the infection to others.
Contraindications
Don't use it if you have allergic reaction, kidney illness, pregnant or breastfeeding.
Possible side effect
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergy, giddy, diarrhea or retching and also fever.

Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

Storage
Store your medicines at room temperature between 59-77 F (15-25 C). Store away from moisture and light. Keep it out of the reach of children and away from pets.
